Shenzhen-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD unveiled a new 1,000-volt charging platform for EVs on March 17, claiming it can provide around 400 kilometers of range with just a 5-minute charge.
The “Super e-Platform” supports peak charging speeds of 1,000 kilowatts, allowing EVs to power up as quickly as refueling a petrol car. The charger can handle 1,000A, supporting a 10C charging rate.
To implement this technology nationwide, BYD plans to install over 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across China. In addition, BYD’s dual-gun charging technology enables two charging guns to operate simultaneously, resulting in faster charging speeds.
The new charging system will be initially available in two new EVs — the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV. The Han L and Tang L can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and 3.6 seconds, respectively.
During the event, BYD also unveiled its new electric motor, which boasts a remarkable 30,000 RPM (revolutions per minute), along with a next-generation 1500V silicon carbide (SiC) system, further accelerating its efforts in vehicle electrification.
